Golden Hum & The Tolbooth present lauded American guitarist, composer, and bandleader Chris Forsyth whose widescreen art-rock fuses taut compositions and mercurial improvisations, earning him a reputation as one of the most distinctive and critically acclaimed guitarists working today.

In 2013, he assembled The Solar Motel Band, who quickly developed a reputation as an incredible live act, provoking ecstatic comparisons to visionary artists such as Television, The Grateful Dead, Popol VuhNeil Young & Crazy Horse, and Richard Thompson.

The volatile chemistry of the Solar Motel Band was first evidenced on their Solar Live 10.15.13 LP (Electric Ragtime), recorded live in Philadelphia and released in spring 2014. This was followed by two critically acclaimed albums Intensity Ghost (‘Best Releases of 2014’ Uncut) and The Rarity of Experience which Pitchfork hailed “a near-perfect balance between 70s rock tradition and present day experimentation.” Aquarium Drunkard called it “pure unadulterated guitar heaven – classic rock remade.” The Quietus said, “It’s just immense.” NPR Music named Forsyth “one of rock’s most lyrical guitar improvisors” and the New York Times called him “a scrappy and mystical historian… His music humanizes the element of control in rock classicism (and) turns it into a woolly but disciplined ritual.”

Dreaming In The Non-Dream, his nerviest collection of songs yet, will be released August 18, 2017.

Golden Hum are local purveyors of (ir)regular evenings of spectral live music in Stirling. In collaboration with local band Constant Follower, the nights feature artists from the cutting edge of contemporary music – think Radio 6, Pitchfork and those influential and fiercely independent record labels we love to support.
