Road closures and temporary traffic lightsSubscribe

Occasionally, there is a need to close or restrict access to parts of a road or pavement to allow works or other activities to proceed safely. The duration of works are agreed and closely monitored to minimise the impact to the travelling public. Please note that as of 1 May 2014 new charges apply to all applications.
Anyone wishing to restrict traffic by way of a road closure, one-way system, speed restriction or the suspension of parking places, must complete and submit a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order application form giving a minimum of 28 days notice.
Anyone wishing to carry out works that will require the use of temporary traffic lights must apply for the appropriate road permit. Temporary restrictions will normally only be processed once works have been registered with the Scottish Roadworks Register in accordance with the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005. All road work information can be found on the Scottish Roadworks Register Roadworks Scotland. For information on road closures affecting motorway and trunk roads including M9, M80, A82(T), A84(T), A85(T) please refer to Traffic Scotland.
We have annual programmes of works, these detail all of the projects that we intend to carry out over the fiscal year.
(This is an indicative programme only and may change depending on budgetary constraints and changes in road condition)
