Stirling - you were amazing! All the communities, runners, supporters, volunteers and spectators. We couldn't have done it without you. #StirlingMarathon

ZOLA BUDD, right, one of the most recognisable names in Olympic history, competed in the Stirling Scottish Marathon on Sunday 21 May 2017.

She was joined by Scotland's greatest-ever distance runner Liz McColgan, left, who was recently announced as an ambassador for the Great Run British Marathon Series, for the 26.2 mile challenge in the heart of Scotland

The Course

Started at Blair Drummond Safari Park, with some of the exotic animals bidding the runners farewell,  the course took in the historic Doune Village and the famous Doune Castle, where Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed, headed on through the beautiful towns of Dunblane, home of Wimbledon Winner, Andy Murray and onto the picturesque town of Bridge of Allan and by the Allan river, around Stirling's University, carried on past the famous Wallace Monument to end up under the historic Stirling Castle in city centre of Stirling.

This was a marathon unlike any other, the fast and flat course provided an amazing experience for experienced and first time runners with the beautiful scenery of Stirling.

The marathon, which was supported by Stirling Council in conjunction with the Great Run Company, attracted around 6,500 runners. It started at 09:00, at Blair Drummond Safari Park and finished just off Raploch Road in the City Centre.
