Pattern of School Holidays 2015/16

Stirling Council is conducting a consultation on the pattern of school holidays. You can give your views by completing this quick survey: (please note this survey is now closed)

This consultation is seeking your views on whether you wish to continue with the existing arrangements of 7 weeks holiday in the summer and 1 week in October, or whether to move to 6 weeks holiday in the summer and 2 weeks in October.

Holidays arrangements are set until 2014/2015. The result of any consultation would affect holidays from 2015/2016.

Along with Clackmannanshire Council and Falkirk Council, Stirling uses a formula in setting the pattern of school holidays. This formula was agreed shortly after the creation of the unitary authorities, recognising that pupils from all three local authorities attend provision in other local authority establishments. The formula allows a degree of flexibility with the setting of occasional days such as one-off local holiday and in-service days. In Stirling these days are used in February, Easter and May.

Stirling has boundaries with 7 other local authority areas and pupils attend Stirling schools from 6 of these local authority areas by virtue of placing requests. Of these local authorities, Perth and Kinross; and Argyll and Bute currently have a 2-week break at October. The catchment area for St Modan’s High School includes all of Clackmannanshire Council and part of the Falkirk Council Area.
