Who qualifies for food and clothing grants

If you didn't get a grant for your child last year, you will need to fill in an application form. We will send you a form before the end of June if you were paid a grant in the previous school session.

There is a single application form for both benefits, and it is only necessary to apply once per year. Supporting evidence will require to be supplied at the time of applying and applications cannot be processed until this has been received. 

Documents you will need to provide

  • Are you getting Income Support / Income-based Jobseekers Allowance/Employment Support Allowance (Income Related)?

If you don't receive Housing benefit or Council Tax Reduction from us you need to show us your award letter.

  • Are you getting Child Tax Credit / Working Tax Credit?

You will need to provide us with all the pages of your most recent Tax Credit Award letter (this must be dated in the last 3 months and show your expected income.

Application

Please take your completed application form, along with the above documents,, to your nearest local office, or Customer First, Port Street, Stirling or post to Stirling Council, Municipal Buildings, 8-10 Corn Exchange Road, Stirling, FK8 2HU.

We can only accept applications for a Footwear and Clothing Grant up to 31 December. We will send you a payment, direct to your bank account, if you meet the qualifying conditions. Stirling Council will no longer be issuing cheques. A payment of £50 can be made up to the 31st December.

Free School Meals

Free school meals applications can be made at any time during the year. Free meals will be provided from the date the application is approved. Forms will be processed within 5 to 10 days but the 1st payment run will go on in July and weekly thereafter. Depending on the date your application form is processed will determine when payment will be made to your nominated bank account.

You can apply for Footwear & Clothing Grants up to 31st December 2016.  Only one Footwear and Clothing grant per child is allowed for each school year. 

No grant is paid for young people who are 16 years old by 30th September 2016.  They should apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance, please contact the school office for an application form. If any of the above applies they are due free school meals.

If your child qualifies for Free School Meals we will tell their Headteacher(s).  You can apply for Free School Meals at any time.  Meals will be provided from the date the application is approved and cannot be backdated.

We can't pay a grant for children attending nursery. However, if your child is over 2 years old and attends nursery for an extended day, NOT a half-day session, and any of the above applies they are due free meals.

If your application is successful, we aim to send you a payment before the new school year starts.  If you haven’t received your payment by then please phone 01786 233210.  We start sending out payments direct to your bank account in July.  ** Please note cheques will no longer be issued. **

If you are not entitled to a payment we will write to you and explain why.
