Residential care for children and young people

We offer residential accommodation for young people aged between 12 and 20 years of age under the recommendation of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014.

We work to meet the needs of the individual and to advocate for, or on behalf of, each young person who is accommodated within our residential environment.

We engage in partnership working with other agencies, such as:

  • Education
  • Barnardo's Fraegarrach project
  • Health
  • Social Work

Accommodation - Brucefield

Brucefield is a purpose built residential home, providing accommodation for up to 5 young people.  We provide an Outreach service, which supports children and families and curb the numbers of young people being admitted into Local Authority Care, by providing early interventions and preventative therapeutic interventions.

Short/medium-term placements

If a young person's assessed needs cannot be met within a family, they may be able to receive a placement in Brucefield residential care home.  We work with the young person and the family, to enable the young person to return home.  Where this is not possible, we would accommodate the young person with a view to arranging an alternative family placement.

Long-term placements

If a young person's assessed needs cannot be met within a family setting, our staff work alongside colleagues from other appropriate agencies to provide long-term, and if required intensive, intervention to address complex and challenging behaviours.

Emergency/unplanned admissions

In exceptional circumstances, and after consideration of the needs of the young people already accommodated, an admission may be made.

National Care Standards

The National Care Standards, required by Section 50 of the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010, describe key principles which identify what a young person can expect from their care provider, primarily the rights to:

  • choice
  • dignity
  • diversity and safety
  • equality
  • privacy
  • realising their potential
