Littering and fly-tipping are criminal offences. If you're caught doing either, you could be fined.
Stirling Council provides litter bins and household waste and recycling centres across the council area. Making use of them saves money in clearing up, and keeps Stirlingshire cleaner and safer for all of us.
Littering
Littering means throwing down or dropping an item in any public open space. Stirling Council, Police Scotland and Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park are authorised to issue an £80 fine to anyone caught littering.
Fly-tipping
Fly-tipping means illegally dumping any type of waste onto land that's not licenced to accept waste. This could range from a bin bag of household waste to large quantities of commercial waste.
Stirling Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park are authorised to issue a £250 fine to anyone caught fly-tipping. In Scotland, fly-tipping prosecutions can result in imprisonment and fines up to £40,000.
Information for landowners
If you're a private landowner it's up to you to make sure any fly-tipping on your property is removed safely. If you're not able to do this yourself, you'll need to use a licenced waste carrier.
