What our libraries offer

A guide to the services, support and activities you can access for free in Stirling's libraries.

General services in our libraries

Stirling Council has:

  • 17 libraries
  • 2 mobile libraries

All of these are welcoming spaces where you can work, study, read and relax. 

Our libraries also offer visitors a range of helpful services, including: 

  • a great selection of books for all ages and interests
  • access to books without any fines
  • free requests for books that are not available 
  • tea and coffee machines
  • newspapers and magazines, online and in print
  • a Housebound Service for people who cannot visit a library themselves
  • a hearing aid battery replacement service
  • free period products

You can use our book collections to find money-saving tips, quick and cheap recipes and eco-friendly ideas on crafts, recycling, mending and making.

Help with work, study, IT skills and money

Many of our libraries offer visitors:

  • free access to PCs and the internet 
  • free wifi 
  • photocopying, scanning and printing services
  • one-to-one support on issues involving job seeking, Universal Credit claims and lifelong learning from a dedicated Digital Inclusion Officer
  • appointments with our  ‘IT and Me’ volunteers on using smartphones, tablets and digital devices, as well as support with getting online and accessing online resources
  • a tablet-lending scheme
  • Citizens Advice Bureau surgeries
  • job clubs
  • support for New Scots and people learning English 

Bannockburn Library also has a 'makerspace' where you can access 3-D printers, sewing machines, laser cutters and vinyl cutters.

Groups and activities in our libraries

Our libraries host a wide range of activities for people of all ages. These include:

  • Bookbug events
  • storytime events
  • Chatterbooks after-school book groups for children
  • LEGO groups
  • fun craft activities for children
  • book groups for adults, including specialist crime, science fiction and poetry groups
  • ‘knit and natter’ and ‘craft and crochet’ groups
  • reminiscence groups
  • support groups for people who want to stop smoking
  • Step on Stress classes
  • lifelong learning groups, including languages, art and writing
  • book festivals and author events for adults and children
  • digital events for children and adults
