Strange Behaviours: Graham Costello’s Strata

Back for round two, in the unlikely event that there are any minds left un-blown from Feb 2018’s visit!

STRATA are a collective of some of the finest musicians the burgeoning Scottish jazz scene has to offer, all led by virtuoso drummer and thrilling composer Graham Costello. Nominated for both ‘Best Band’ and ‘Best EP/Album’ at the 2018 Scottish Jazz Awards, the band blend stylistic elements of jazz, minimalism, and celebrated progressive/noise bands together with a strong DIY ethic, winning over audiences with towering dynamics and a raw and genuine enthusiasm. The music explores polyrhythm, collective groove and, at it’s true core, improvisation.

February 2019 sees the release of their full length debut album “OBELISK”, with accompanying tour.

  • Harry Weir – tenor saxophone
  • Liam Shortall – trombone
  • Fergus McCreadie – piano
  • Joe Williamson – guitar
  • Mark Hendry – electric bass
  • Graham Costello – drums and composition
