Reading, writing, spelling and numbers

These free classes for adults can help you improve your skills, and possibly gain an SQA qualification or ASDAN certification.

These courses can help you improve your skills for:

  • form-filling
  • using ICT with reading, writing, spelling and numbers
  • letter writing
  • reports
  • CVs
  • budgeting

Classes are for anyone over 16 who would like help with reading, writing and numbers. They support learners with a range of needs, including:

  • dyslexia
  • learning disabilities
  • hearing and visual impairments

We can provide individual help in small, friendly groups with support from tutors and volunteers.

English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)

We provide free English classes for non-native speakers to further their skills for living and working in Scotland. Classes run at various times with support from tutors and volunteers.

You can learn English for work and for everyday life, with classes aimed at beginners and those who already have some English language skills.

Where appropriate, we can offer SQA accreditation for a variety of modules.

We can also help with CV writing and applying for jobs through our employability programmes.

Community and evening classes

Community classes are held at a variety of times throughout the week, including daytime and evening. Some are held in person and some are online.

Subjects covered in these classes include:

  • art
  • Gaelic
  • technology
  • wellbeing

Family learning

Engage in family learning, and develop knowledge and skills to better support the child or person you care for.

We work with nurseries, schools, health providers, libraries and third sector organisations to promote and deliver family-learning activities.

Family learning includes programmes or sessions that help you learn about:

  • learning through play
  • family literacy and numeracy
  • health and wellbeing
  • parenting skills

Courses cover a range of topics, including:

  • early literacy development for under-5s
  • food and literacy-related projects
  • early play and learning for 2 to 3-year-olds
  • English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
  • the Peep Learning Together Programme
  • Gaelic for parents

Wellbeing opportunities

Our wellbeing opportunities can help you to:

  • learn how to manage day-to-day stress
  • build your confidence
  • raise your self-esteem
  • achieve your goals

Different types of support are available, including:

  • meetings that involve small groups
  • individual phone calls
  • short drop-in sessions

In addition, our City Region Deal Inclusion Workers can provide one-to-one support that focuses on wellbeing, confidence and everyday skills.
