Volunteering with Learning and Employability provides an opportunity to develop skills and experience by supporting learners in literacy, numeracy and ICT groups. The team was awarded Investing in Volunteers status for the third time in 2015, having been the first local authority service in Scotland to achieve the award in 2009.
Literacy and Numeracy
Volunteers can be involved in the tutoring of learners by supporting a group tutor in literacy and numeracy classes where adults want to improve their reading, writing or number skills.
ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
There are opportunities for experienced volunteers in ESOL, supporting the tutor to develop English language skills with beginner and post-beginner groups.
Community Class Buddy
Volunteers can ‘buddy’ learners who need support to participate in other adult learning classes such as Computing or Arts and Crafts.
Who can volunteer?
Anyone with an interest in adult learning and a commitment to the ethos of lifelong learning can volunteer. Training is provided to all volunteers and can lead to an SQA qualification in Adult Literacies.
