Several key decisions were made regarding Stirling’s school estate at a meeting of the Children and Young People Committee today (April 25th).
Doune Nursery and Doune Primary School

Councillors agreed to approve the formal amalgamation of Doune Nursery and Doune Primary School as of 19 August 2019.

In September 2016, a pilot was established to trial the shared headship of Doune Nursery and Doune Primary School. The pilot has been in place for over two years and has proven successful.

Buchanan Primary School

Councillors agreed to continue to mothball Buchanan Primary School for school session 2019/20.

It was also agreed that during the period of mothballing, the catchment of Drymen Primary School continue to be extended to include the current catchment of Buchanan Primary.

A further report will be brought back to the Committee prior to the start of school session 2020/21 to discuss the future of the school.

Trossachs Primary School

Councillors approved the permanent closure of Trossachs Primary School with effect from 28 June 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

In sessions 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19, Committee agreed to mothball the school. This came after the roll at Trossachs Primary had fallen to an average of seven pupils since 2013/14. In August 2016 the roll fell to zero.

During the period of mothballing, the catchment area of Callander Primary School was successfully extended to include the area covered by Trossachs Primary School, and most children living in the Trossachs catchment area now attend Callander Primary School.

Drymen Primary and Croftamie Nursery

Councillors agreed that the Education Authority scopes out potential nursery provision at Drymen Primary School and that a formal consultation be undertaken to consider the permanent closure of Croftamie Nursery.

It was also agreed that the Chief Education Officer prepares and publishes a Consultation Report on these proposals, which will be brought to Committee for a decision in September 2019.
