Dangerous building update – Port Street

Port Street has now fully reopened to vehicles and pedestrians.

Stirling Council established the safety exclusion zone in front of the building on Port Street due to the risks to public safety. This is our legal duty and a Dangerous Building Notice was served on the building owners following the initial incident.

This is a private property and it is the responsibility of the building owners to prevent it falling into a dangerous condition and to undertake any maintenance and necessary repairs.

We have been working with the building owners to have the repair works undertaken as soon as possible.

On 5 March we received confirmation from the building owners and their contractor that they have completed the installation of structural supports to the facade of the building. This has allowed the safety exclusion zone to be reduced, enabling the full reopening of the road and the partial reopening of the footway.

Full structural repairs to the building will now take place by the contractor on behalf of the owners with these measures in place. As a result, no further public updates will be shared by the council on this situation.

* Stirling Council is required by law to take action and carry out work to protect the public in or in places adjacent to a dangerous building under the Building (Scotland) Act 2003.
